Toothache
Toothache from the point of view of Ayurveda
A toothache is a pain sensation in or around a tooth that is caused by tooth decay, abscessed tooth, tooth fracture, filling damage, repetitive motions such as chewing gum or grinding teeth and gum infection. Temporary gum irritation may also cause some toothaches.
Severe toothache, especially when accompanied by swelling/inflammation, shows a serious problem and requires urgent medical attention from a professional dentist.
The pulp inside the tooth is a mass of connective tissue filled with nerves and blood vessels. Pulp nerves are among the most sensitive in the body. When bacteria irritate or infect the nerves, it can cause severe pain.
Oral health means more than just “good teeth”. It allows us to speak, smile, kiss, taste, chew and swallow! Taking care of our teeth is not only important for proper digestion, it also affects our appearance. There is a strong relationship between oral health and general health. Good oral hygiene is necessary to keep teeth, gums, and tongue healthy.
How Ayurvedic doctors treat toothache
Ayurveda believes dental issues can be treated by balancing the three doshas of the human body: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. According to Ayurveda, Kapha dosha is the root of dental problems, so we must take care of it and balance it properly.
In Ayurveda, teeth are a part of Asthi dhatu, or bone tissue. Take Ayurvedic herbs internally to strengthen the bones. Toothache treatment in Ayurveda is based on herbal therapies. Various herbs can help to rejuvenate the oral health and support the healing and development of the connective tissues.
The well-known herbs in Ayurveda to reduce cavity and plaque are Amla, Bilberry, and Hawthorn berries. These ingredients can stabilize collagen and strengthen the gum tissue.
Ayurveda uses a variety of home remedies such as cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, garlic, cardamom — all can be quite effective in the treatment of toothaches.
Through Ayurvedic treatment, you can maintain strong roots and gloss of teeth naturally. Ayurvedic medicines and herbs can reduce pain or discomfort in common dental problems, but we should not use it as a substitute for professional dental care in serious cases, when urgent surgical attention is required. If you are using herbal remedies for dental issues and find that they do not help, please make an appointment with our Ayurvedic doctor as soon as possible.
