Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial cystitis from the point of view of Ayurveda
Interstitial cystitis is a chronic bladder problem , condition causing bladder pressure, bladder pain and sometimes pelvic pain. The condition is a part of a spectrum of diseases known as painful bladder syndrome. Bladder is a hollow, muscular organ that stores urine. The bladder expands until it's full and then signals your brain that it's time to urinate, communicating through the pelvic nerves. This creates the urge to urinate for most people. With interstitial cystitis, these signals get mixed up — you feel the need to urinate more often and with smaller volumes of urine than most people. Interstitial cystitis most often affects women and can have a long-lasting impact on quality of life.
HOW AYURVEDIC DOCTORS TREAT INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS
In Ayurveda, interstitial cystitis is known as ‘Ushna Vata’. According to Ayurveda, Interstitial Cystitis is caused due to the aggravation of the Vata and Pitta dosha . Apana Vata is a sub-dosha of Vata which is mainly responsible for Interstitial Cystitis.
Apana Vata is located in the lower pelvic region and controls the elimination of the urine, stool, menstrual blood, and reproductive fluids. Pitta dosha is also involved in its causation which symbolizes fire or heat. Aggravated Vata dosha manifests as pain and aggravated Pitta dosha as a burning sensation. Imbalance or aggravation of these doshas results in accumulation of the toxins ( Ama) in the body which leads to pain, burning sensation, and frequent urination.
Ayurvedic Urological treatment for Interstitial Cystitis include variations of different Ayurvedic procedures like – Uttarbasti, Bladder wash, Basti, Oral medication, Yoga & Pranayama.
The exact course of treatment and therapy is determined by the attending Ayurvedic doctor. Please choose the most convenient time for a consultation with our specialists
