Insomnia from the point of view of Ayurveda
Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which person have trouble falling and/or staying asleep. The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic).
Acute insomnia lasts from 1 night to a few weeks. Chronic Insomnia is when it occurs 3 nights a week for 3 months or more.
There are two types of insomnia :

Primary insomnia - sleep problems aren’t linked to any other health condition or problem.

Secondary insomnia - have trouble sleeping because of a other health conditions - asthma , depression , arthritis , cancer , heartburn , pain , alcohol
Primary causes include - Stress related to big life events, like a job loss or change, the death of a loved one, divorce, relocation, big light, hot or cold temperature
Secondary causes of insomnia include - Mental health issues, depression and anxiety
Medications for colds , allergies , depression, high blood pressure , and asthma ,Pain or discomfort at night, also Caffeine , tobacco , or alcohol use. Hyperthyroidism and other endocrine problems.

Insomnia in Ayurvedic terminology is called Anidra or Nidranasha . And it comes under Vata Dosha imbalance. Ayurveda understands sleep at one of three pillars of healthy sustenance of life, along with food , healthy conscious relationships and sleep.
