Bronchitis

Bronchitis from the point of view of Ayurveda

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the large airway passages that connect the windpipe and lungs. This is caused by a viral or bacterial infection.  More common is bacterial bronchitis than viral bronchitis. The main symptom of bronchitis is coughing. Other symptoms might include a runny nose, sore throat and fever  also might be short of breath and have some wheezing.. The illness can be short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic):
Acute bronchitis comes on quickly and can cause severe symptoms , usually caused by a common cold or any other respiratory tract infection. But it lasts no more than a few weeks. Usually bronchitis sorts itself out in 1-2 weeks.
Chronic bronchitis it can be mild to severe and lasts longer (from several months to years). People who have chronic bronchitis have a higher risk of bacterial infections of the airway and lungs, like pneumonia.

HOW AYURVEDIC DOCTORS TREAT BRONCHITIS

In Ayurveda, Bronchitis is known as Shwasa Pranali Shoth. According to Ayurveda, bronchitis is more similar to Kapha imbalance in the body. Management of Kapha is priority of stopping the disease from progressing.

This can be achieved by Ayurvedic medicaments that enhance the digestive fire, and  improve  amapachana (Detoxify) and provide removal of excess mucus from organism.  Ayurvedic therapies are very successful in the treatment of respiratory diseases. The main goal of natural treatment for bronchitis is to improve the elasticity of the alveoli, which reduces the severity. The goal of bronchitis treatment is to balance the exacerbated Vata and Kapha doshas.

Ayurvedic therapies recommend Herbal oil massages, which can be done at home ( in case of acute bronchitis) , or Ayurvedic course at a specialist in case of chronic bronchitis. An Ayurvedic doctor will recommend natural essential oils, and will compile the recommended Ayurvedic preparations  treatments that open the channels of circulation and elimination  –  proper nourishment can reach the tissues to aid their repair and development
