Bed-wetting
Bed-wetting from the point of view of Ayurveda
Enuresis is more commonly known as bed-wetting. Enuresis is a common childhood problem. Estimates. Enuresis, or bed-wetting at night, is the most common type of elimination disorder. Daytime wetting is called diurnal enuresis.
Many factors may be involved in the development of enuresis.
Enuresis may be associated with other mental disorders, including behavior disorders or emotional disorders such as anxiety. Enuresis also appears to run in families, which suggests that a tendency for the disorder may be inherited (passed on from parent to child, particularly on the father's side). Involuntary, or unintentional, release of urine may result from:
- A small bladder
- Persistent urinary tract infections
- Severe stress
- Developmental delays that interfere with toilet training
Enuresis is called Shayyamutrata in Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, Enuresis is a physiological and psychological disorder. The Ayurvedic explanation for this urination problem is related to the 3 Dosha activities and the nervous system. In Ayurveda, bed-wetting is believed to be a Vata disturbance feature.
