The common cold (upper respiratory infection) is more likely to occur in children than adults because their immunities are not fully developed. . All children are at risk for the common cold. Many children will have at least 3 to 6 colds a year. Children who attend daycare, preschool, will have more case of illness.Colds may occur less often after age 6. Colds happen when a virus irritates the lining of the nose and throat. There is more than 200 different viruses colds can be caused.Usually cold symptoms start from 1 to 3 days after child has been in contact with the cold virus. Cold symptoms include: trouble sleeping, stuffy, runny nose, fussiness, scratchy, tickly throat, watery eyes, sneezing, congestion in the nose, sore throat, fever, sometimes also vomiting and diarrhea, achy muscles and bones, headaches. If a cold is not treated in time possible to have some health complications like: ear infections , sinus infections, pneumonia, throat infections, conjunctivitis, laryngitis - under such conditions, treatment will be much more serious and complicated.
